What is gynaecology?

Gynaecology is the branch of medicine and physiology that focuses on the health of the female reproductive systems (vagina, uterus and ovaries) and the breasts. Gynaecologists, like Dr. Remi Adelasoye, provide specialized health care services to women from their teen years through menopause and beyond. Whether you need to schedule your annual exam or more specialized services, Dr. Adelasoye will work with you to provide individual care.

How often should I see a gynaecologist?

According to the Canadian Women’s Health Network, it is important to start scheduling regular Pap tests by the age of 25. Pap smears save lives by detecting any changes in the cells of the cervix, which could eventually develop into cancer. Once you have had 3 yearly negative Pap results in a row, you can move to screenings every 2 years. We recommend that you see your doctor regularly for sexually transmitted infection (STI) screenings, if you have had unprotected sexual activity with a new partner. If you are concerned about other reproductive issues, or if you are suffering from symptoms related to menopause or endometriosis, Dr. Adelasoye can help.
